The kids holiday workshops will be held for children between the ages of 6 and 12 years old.
The techniques utilised for the activities are monotype and drypoint.
The approach will be relaxed and the children will be encouraged to explore their own creativity by means of the techniques demonstrated and to have fun. We will have a range of imagery to use as references but the kids are welcome to bring along their own. And, all the materials are provided. The instructor with an assistant will be involved throughout to facilitate and encourage the children.
Some of the primary learning opportunities presented by printmaking are to do with problem-solving. The initial “problem” to be solved is how to create an image within specific parameters such as the given size of the plate. From there, the children are required to engage with ideas of working in reverse and back to front (or even front to back) – the image that is printed will be a mirror of the image they have made on the plate. Other learning opportunities are those shared with art-making in general, and these relate to colour, shape, spatial awareness in 2- and 3-dimensions.
The children will leave the workshop with artworks that they have created.
