He has participated in several group exhibitions in South Africa including Bigwood in Durban in 2008, The Bare Project by Am I Collective in Cape Town in 2009 and the traveling show City Slickers in Durban and Cape Town in 2009 /10. He was also part of a 3 man show at the Oh!NoDoom Gallery in Chicago in 2010. Metcalf is currently exhibiting on the Stroke 03 Artfair in Berlin.
Metcalf says the following about his working method:
“I try to not approach art too conceptually preferring to discover meaning rather than attach it. I see my work as an ongoing attempt to capture a mood or a feeling. Something somewhere between nostalgia and melancholy, isolation and hope. As an unintentional by-product of this struggle I find myself uncovering and dealing with repeated themes of isolation, memory and relationships.
