In Relief | Part one
Works from the Yellowwoods Art Commission (previously known as Jeannetta Blignaut Art Consultancy)
Warren Editions Projects hosts In Relief | Part one, an exhibition of a selection of large-format fine art prints by Christo Basson and Matty Roodt, from the Yellowwoods Art Commission.
In partnership with Yellowwoods Art, Warren Editions has since the beginning of 2013 collaborated with a number of exciting artists on a series of technically and dimensionally daring relief prints. To date the collaborating artists have been Christo Basson, Jean de Wet, Connor Cullinan, Vulindlela Nyoni, and Matty Roodt.
Working with master printer Zhané Warren, project coordinator Morné Visagie and a team of print assistants, the artists develop and each produce a series of three works, printed as a limited edition. Characterised by a bold layering of form and colour, these prints, worked in relief, are a far cry from the monochromatic linocuts often associated with the medium.
Necessitating the studio’s recent acquisition (in 2013) of a new and giant-sized press – fondly dubbed the She Monster – the project has stretched both artists and printers, but in the process reaffirmed the studio’s commitment to print as an evolving, ever-surprising medium of contemporary art practice.
