Sanell Aggenbach

Sanell Aggenbach born 1975, lives and works in Cape Town. Aggenbach’s work moves around concerns of cultural identity and historical myth-making, often infused with parody and satire her paintings, sculptures, drawings and prints are delicate and finely crafted – oftentimes with slight humour and whimsy. She often interrogates the impact of the past and how it is remembered and interpreted, using nostalgia as the device for this recall. Aggenbach received her BA (Fine Art) degree at the University of Stellenbosch and has had numerous solo shows and participated on many group exhibitions. Noteably, in 2003 she won the ABSA l’Atelier Award and is included in numerous collections including the Spier art collection.
