Ruan Hoffmann

Published in the June 2009 Condé Nast House & Garden (page 24 & 25) - an article on Ruan Hoffmann and his ceramic pieces.

“Infused with angst and confrontation, Ruan Hoffmann’s words, phrases and images, carefully hand painted, transferred and embossed across ceramic plates and vases, possess more than just a hint of dark reflection and black humour. ‘My pieces are like diary inscriptions,’ says Hoffman, ‘every word is closely related to my life.’”

Ruan Hoffmann is most commonly known for his autobiographical ceramic pieces and has worked with the ceramic medium for 14 years. The plates and bowls that he has produced in 2008 were made with paper-clay. He uses the surfaces of plates, bowls, tile panels and small sculptures as canvasses for his icon-like images. His art is often infused with personal concerns about identity and sexuality.

Ruan Hoffmann was awarded in March 2009 the Thami Mnyele Artist-in-Resident in Amsterdam for 3 months. Click on this link in order to read the Artthob article

Ruan Hoffmann did a collaboration with Warren Editions in October 2008. From this collaboration 6 colour etchings were produced.
