“My four days of printing monotypes with Warren Editions, were a bit like breaking the sound barrier without getting of the coach! The studio is pristine (in sharp contrast to my own nest). To have both an assistant and experienced printer on stand-by is a luxury which I hope to repeat soon… My new role as artist-mother is both an ecstatic and humbling endeavour! The professional support - plus copious cups of coffee- not only gave me the momentum to race through and churn out a number of visuals, but also provided an opportunity to truly explore some of the themes that I’ve been toying with over the past couple of months.”
Liza Grobler received a Masters Degree in Fine Art with distinction from Stellenbosch University (1999). Her visual research is a conversation between image, language and daily life that incorporates bright colours and diverse materials. She often collaborates with other artists and/or groups, such as the public art project Afrikkan Tähti in 2007 (in collaboration Jeanne Hoffman) at the Rauma Art Museum in Finland. Grobler co-founded blank projects with Jonathan Garnham in 2005. In 2006 she co-developed WASTE AT WORK – a waste minimisation business/art collaborative project - with Jeanetta Blignaut.
To date, she has had six solo shows and partook in numerous group shows locally as well as internationally - in Italy, Brazil, Germany, England, The Netherlands, Switzerland, Australia, Spain, USA and Finland. She attended residencies and workshops in America, Norway, Finland and Switzerland. She is a part-time lecturer in Drawing at the UCT School of Architecture and an art critic for Die Burger newspaper. She lives and works in Cape Town.
